someone was describing to me that they head just been given a black powder revolver from a family member who had recently passed

They said it was a black powder, 8 shot revolver from JC Higgins and it had brass parts on it.

Do any of you recall seeing such a revolver?

jc higgins was a lable sold by sears.

an 8 shot .22 bp capper, I'm not so sure of.

that is what I am trying to find out for sure.

A JC Higgins revolver..yes
Being black powder.. I don't know.

I don't know about BP hand guns. As I recall Sears sold a High Standard revolver line with their JC Higgins name. I have an A. Zoli .58 Zouave Rifle with the Sears & Robuck Logo on the trigger guard tang. J. C. Higgins was a sales manager for Sears back in the 40s and 50s.
There is some confusion in that there were no .22 BP hand guns in the 40s or 50s. High Standard did make an 8 shot Colt looking Dbl, action. This was during the fast draw rage and TV westerns.

From what I can find, all of the High Standard .22 revolvers had 9 shot cylinders.
Sears J.C.Higgins did buy some of their guns from High Standard, an excellent company who always seemed to miss the boat with their revolver offerings.
They didn't miss the boat when it came to semi-autos though as my Trophy has proven.

Oh yes now I recall. They were called Dbl. Nines. Speaking of the Autos I have an old GE with 4 barrels and weights. Do you recall the .380 target pistols used for shooting IPSC .38 class? The last I knew some company in Texas was making the HS target pistol again.
Well that limits the gun to the old H&R Sealed Eights. Maybe Sears sold those under the JCH brand. Sears was the largest gun dealer in the US back in those days. :hmm:
