Johann Casimir Tanner, Sondershausen, dated 1736. Octagonal Damascus barrel with eight groove rifling in 17 mm calibre. Dovetailed front sight and a three-stage adjustable rear sight. A chiselled Diana surrounded by scrollwork on a gilded background in the area of the chamber, in front of decorative vines in gold inlay. The number "2" is engraved on the tang. The cut iron, partially gilded flintlock bears the signature, "TANNER A SONDERSHAUSEN 1736". Carved (reworked) walnut full stock with patchbox and horn nose cap. A count's coat of arms beneath a coronet engraved on the silver escutcheon. Iron furniture, finely chiselled and gilded en suite. Original wooden ramrod with horn tip and iron threaded socket. An extremely well made rifle in beautiful condition. Length 110 cm.
