Back around 2002 or so James River Armory offered a de-farbed M1861 Springfield musket with a special Hoyt barrel and sights set up for precision target shooting. I got one, they were about $765. at the time, now long out of production. Anyone else out there have/bought one? I believe they were for like the N-NSA type competition.

James River Armory imported them with a smoothbored barrel which was then sent to Hoyt to be rifled. I'm not sure but I believe they may have been made by Euroarms (see link below). They were skirmish ready at a price which was very competitive with the average imports. I briefly talked with the owner while he was clearing out his booth at Ft. Shenandoah and he admitted suppository guns like the M14 they were manufacturing were far more lucrative than rifle-muskets and they moved on.

Thanks, Interesting. I didn't know they used unrifled barrels to start before Mr. Hoyt got them. I think they were indeed Euroarms. The now-rare book on the rifled musket "Lock Stock & Barrel" had so much detailed info on replica muskets it really kindled my interest.
