have been thinking of buying a mold for my Charleville (.69). I looked the Jeff Tanner web site but the pics show only the two piece mold blocks. Are there handles include with these and do they just look like/work like any other (LEE/Lyman) mold? Would I just be better off buying a Lee mold as it's quite inexpensive ($25.00) and I won't be doing all that much casting.

thanks, squint

There are no handles or sprue cutter with the Tanner molds. You need to buy Lyman or the large Lee handles. The sprue must be cut with whatever you have that will do the job. The quality of the mold blocks themselves is excellent, however.

No, they don't come with handles. But they are great molds, not to mention they are precision made by a talented craftsman. :master:

I own two sets of them, an .81 for my 1/4 scale 1810 Spanish naval cannon with a 21mm bore. Then there's the .990 set for my 1.0 caliber handgonne, I recently casted some balls from this one using a pair of channel locks to hold them. I've got to scrounge some 1/2" x 1/4" steel stock to make a set of handles for this one. :hmm:

If you're just going to throw a few balls, then a Lee mold will do, but if you plan to do some serious production, then, I'd go with a Lyman or similar mold.

Just :m2c:

I bought a lee .600 mold from track for my .62 smoothbore and it works great. :peace:

All my moulds (and patches) are from Jeff. The moulds are good quality,he does sell the handles as well. Service is next day in the UK.

squint,
I will say one thing about Jeff he is very easy
to deal with... I have ordered from him a couple of times
(not moulds) I tell him what i want he ships it and then
i send a check( yes i said check) and the longest my
wait for delivery is 9 days!! From the UK no less! Try
that move with an order from Union City, TN.
And get this the price he gives you is the price you
pay and it won't change daily.
I have found that if the supplier says prices are
subject to change, you can bet they will. :imo:
snake-eyes :m2c: :hmm:

I really like the mold I recieved from Jeff Tanner. He estimated two weeks for delivery. I recieved the mold in 9 days. The only draw back if you can call it one is you have to supply your own handles. Most of us have a couple of sets anyhow. BJH
