I bought a Jeff Tanner mould and the first one did not line up with the mould handles, so Jeff sent me a new one free of charge, the new one did not fit the handles either, so I returned the large lyman handles for new ones. The new mould will screw down but the mould does not close properly. Is this from the handles or the mould? I feel it is the handles but I do not have a lyman mould to try it with. When I went to return the handles I looked carefully at the others and they all looked like the the holes were in different places. Are lyman handles not done well? Has any one else had this problem? HELP ::

Hmmmm, what caliber is the mold? I had that problem with my .990 mold. When you say large mold handles, are these for the single cavity mold or the gang mold? I found my .81 mold worked with the gang handles only.

Just :m2c:

I had similar problems . I took apart a lee mold and used the lee handles. I had either a set of Lyman or RCBS handles that didn't work. The lee handles worked fine. BJH

I have two of Jeff's molds, and I purchased the handles over here. Both molds didn't fit the handles as they should,
almost but not quite. I filed the trough on both sides of the mold to make them fit. Wasn't a big deal, and didn't take very long. I made sure that I didn't open up the cavity. Most of the cuts were from the center to the outside. I wanted a little rocker in each half, so they would engage on there own when I closed them.

I could have worked on the handles, but the piviot screw hole seemed to be too close to the edge.

I like his molds, they work well for me.

I use Kline electrical cable cutters (big jaws, and cut close) to cut the sprew. Use a chasing hammer to tap the area smooth.

I hope this helps, Jim...

If I remember right Jeff's site suggests either lee or lyman handles. I suspect that Lyman's Large handles might work. I think I remember that they used to sell two sizes. BJH

I think I'll just take it to a machinist and have him drill some extra holes in the handles and make it work. that way I can use it for my tanner mould and the lyman mould I intend to buy. :front:
