I see these things fairly frequently, with their seemingly impossible double right-angle drop stocks. I can't imagine how they are to shoot, but the Arabs and Afghans certainly did murderous good work with them -- including wounding our dear friend and Holmes chronicler Dr. Watson.
Anyone out there have one, make one or shoot one? Even better, ever shoot one off a moving camel?

I do not have one (I mean Who does?) but I understand they were shot placing the butt in the center of the chest/sternum like, kind of.

Hi Bill. Here's one I own, but won't be shipped to me till January. Bought it from a Web-Site in the U.K. It has an Enfield percussion lock. I plan to have a barrel liner installed and make it a fun shooter, since the drop in the stock of this one is not so severe. I'll do a future report on the Forum, for anyone interested. Probably none.

Now all you need is a powder flask that compliments it. The interesting thing about this flask is it is weighted so it doesn't flop around when your camel is at a gallop.

I bought it back in July off Ebay. The Star suggests Morrocan origin. But, other than that there is no proveance.

I saw a description of how they were shot according to one sourcem the forestock was layed across the left arm while reins were heeld in thta hand and the buttsock was put just above the inside crook of the elbow, supposedly this was made thusly for use off a horse/camel

Keep us posted on your progress. I have a definite interest in these firearms but have not obtained one as of yet. The thing that fascinates me is the decoration used on these guns. Thanks for posting the photos.

Hi Bovey. I will keep you posted. Actually, I own a number of these guns. All original and in safe shooting order. This Spring I plan on doing a weekly/bi-weekly "Range Report" with a variety of differnt long guns and pistols. Included will be: Moorish Snaphaunce, Algerian Toe-Lock Miquelet, Albanian/Montenegro Miquelet Long Rifle, Afgan Jazail, Japanese Matchlock, etc. Even loading using original powder flasks.
Thought some members on the Forum might find it interesting? Certainly different.

Looking forward to your range reports. Not a lot of "hands on" info available. Thanks for keeping us posted.

I always thought these were designed like this so the Arabs could hold them under an armpit and fire them in volleys while on horseback.

Going to Vietnam later this year. Anybody got any ideas where I might be able to find some of the Vietnamese muzzleloaders over there ... ???
