Hi,

Here is the second gun that I wanted to share with you folks. It also came out of the same house as the Leman and spike tomahawk.

This gun is a cap lock over and under. It is marked on both barrels, John Shuler, Liverpool Pa.. It has more silver inlays on the check rest then I have ever seen on another gun. This is one of my favorite guns. To fire the second barrel, you pull the small lever in front of the trigger guard and rotate the barrels. Thought some of you would like to see it.

What a beautiful old gun. It is a real treasure. Did I understand you correctly? You found this rifle and the others in an old house that you bought? If that is correct, you have been really living right. Keep living right, brother, 'cuz you're on a roll. Congrats on a fine gun!! and thanks for sharing the pictures.

I'm wondering if there were 2 John Shulers an older and younger or possibly a relative? It's quite a rifle and a swivel to boot which shows the versatility of these gunsmiths, but w/ all the ornamentation, possibly a later gun? Don't suppose it ever was a flint? Is Liverpool, PA in Bucks County?....Fred

That's a very nice Shuler you have there.

Liverpool is in Perry Co. About a year ago I took my Samuel Shuler rifle to be photographed by a fellow working on a book about Perry Co. gunbulders. He showed me a copy of the Shuler Family tree. There were seven members, over three generations that built rifles. John moved from Bucks Co. to Perry in the early 1800's. He had three sons, Samuel, John and Joseph. There was a John Ramsey Shuler, who I believe was Samuels son, who also built rifles.
