I have a Lyman Peep on my Deerslayer and while it allows me to shoot pretty well, it is big and clunky!
Reading posts here I saw a post about the Johnson Peep and looked like a good idea. Much less intrusive looking.
It arrived this evening and I am a little confused.
It says not adjustable for elevation but it came with a big slap of steel on the bottom which I assume you could grind down to lower the sight. However the angle would never allow the screws to go into the future tapped and drilled holes.

Anyone actually install one? IO have looked through all the peep sight pictures here and online but saw no answer!

I had the same question, and called the manufacturer. It is now mounted on the tang of my ,32 squirrel gun. Be careful when you install it, as there are no adjustments short of bending.

For barrel mounting, I have used the Marbles sight on several of my muzzies, It is adjustable for windage (by drifting) and has an elevator for elevation. After just a bit of testing I have found which notches to use for 50-100 and 200.
These are available in a short and a long shank version.

Me and a friend have both used the Bullseye sight and it is a good one. It does not work as well, for me, farther down the barrel in the rear sight dovetail. Closer to my eye the better.
The rifle does not have a rear dovetail and have considered having one put in as the Bullseye does have adjustability.

While I agree as close to the eye as possible is optimal, especially for old eyes, any Peep is an improvement.
My friend put the Bullseye sight on two custom ML rifles and drastically improved his groups and hunting range.

The N-SSA allows modifications to the sights but they must remain in the original position. A popular mod is to drill a peep hole in one of the sight blades. If you look at any of the Civil War arms you will see the rear sight quit a ways ahead of the breach and they work just fine at that point, actually better than an open notch. The size of the aperture has to be adjusted according to the distance from the eye.

That is about as useless as teats on a boar hog! To be 'useful' an aperture sight should be located rearward on the tang near the eye!!

Sheesh!!
Only partially accurate old man.....
An aperture sight is better when mounted in the "ghost ring" area near the tang.
That does not make them "useless" however when mounted a bit farther forward.
I have peeps on several "others" of the old West flavor and the Johnson peeps are mounted a good bit off the tang area.
They shoot straight and accurate - much better that the open fatties that were on them originally.
Maybe if you took the time to actually try using a peep you would understand better.

As others have stated, you couldn’t be more wrong. I have mounted these ghost ring style Bullseye sights on a number of guns and found the improvement in the ability to quickly acquire the target and accurately place shots on target to be impressive. They are nowhere near as obvious and subject to being damaged like a tang mounted adjustable peep. Will just about disappear when installed on a muzzleloader or lever action type gun, usually only being noticed if pointed out.

The Bullseye is also made in a short setback version, if you are going to cut a new dovetail that would be a perfect pick.

Here is another fine example of how this forum is going in the wrong direction! One forum member likes something and another has to bash him about his choice. As someone very important in our history said: It is wiser for a man to remain silent and be thought of as a fool than to open his mouth and remove all doubt!

I have put peep sights on handguns so that I can acquire the target faster and get off a accurate shot. The peep on a handgun is at least as far from the eye as on a rifle when mounted in the dovetail cut on the barrel.

Everyone has a right to disagree with something someone else says as long as they don't make personal attacks on members.
If the forum did not allow members to disagree with things that are posted, we would get only one opinion on it. That opinion might be right or it might be totally wrong.
By allowing members to disagree, we get to see other thoughts about a subject. It is then up to us individually, to decide what the best answer is.

I am open to suggestions and opinions myself but why on this forum are we getting increased verbal attacks on a question, product or how someone does something? SunCity didn't have to say what he did in his first sentence, it wasn't necessary. I stand by my response as an opinion.
