As a general rule it makes no difference to the ball.
Think about it. By the time it reaches the recessed boring the ball is already on its course.
 
It doesn't seem to make a difference, actually on one of them it seemed to improve consistency, there by, accuracy.

I think this at 50 yards out of my jug choked fowler but I am not sure it could be 25. Two different sized balls, my gun likes the .70s the best with .18 ticking and 90 gr of 1F. I do have a rear sight on my gun. The date stamp is incorrect.
