Here are the results of the July 10th question from Doug\Va.
138. After each shot of your muzzleloader, do you blow down the barrel?
Yes (5) 13%
Sometimes (6) 15%
No (28) 72%

If you are looking to keep a consistent level of fouling in the barrel as you shoot, its better to use your wiping rod with a damp patch to remove the fouling and extinguish any sparks that may still be smoldering.
Years ago I saw a lady novice mimmick what she had seen others do and started to blow down the barrel after the cap went off and the charge did not. Some observant sole on the line stopped her. Something creepy about putting a gun barrel in your mouth, IMHO.
If you do that at a NMLRA shoot you could be asked to leave the premisis. They used to allow it years ago. Personally, I see people doin'it in movies and such, what's the deal. If the powder goes, what's left in the barrel to blow yer head off?
NOT,..a good idea. One time my flinter would not fire. I blew down the barrel thinking it was unloaded. I blew several times.
I retried shooting a few more times. Guess what........Yep, it was loaded.
After 25 years or so I still shudder!
I pulled the breech and found out it had a cavity which was caked almost shut.
So, if you see a flinter with the touch hole in the breech plug you will know it has a cavity that has to be cleaned with a smaller cleaning jag or mop.
If you just shot the muzzleloader, then you know it empty and if you want to blow down the barrel, that
