Trying to make a point of being a little more grateful lately. Wanted to drop a note here to too many people to list. The info here, responses to questions, and the overall expertise present on this site is something I appreciate. I'm a hacker at this BP stuff. I know weapons, they were a major part of my life for a long time, and I know hunting...but primitive weapons ask mor from us and this place has been there when I needed to know things. It is sort of funny, hand me something WARSAW PACT, and I'll strip it down, clean it, fix it, and use it. Hand me a lock that isn't working and I'm intimidated. Ya'll should see me knapping a flint to a sharp edge. I'm like a monkey with a football. Doesn't matter though, this place takes jokers like me regardless.
All that to say thanks. I appreciate the many posts on my questions. I appreciate the well researched historical responses on threads. I even appreciate some of the heated responses dealing with HC/PC stuff as it shows that folks care enough. Passion is not as common in the world today. Fleeting interest is a far more common thing.
Now to make sure this is proper to the forum, can someone share their best "moose milk" recipe or tell me why Ballistol is evil ; )
Thanks all!

Now, now, Daryl. A search on the Forum for "Moose Milk" recipes will turn up results that will keep you reading for hours, if not days.

Do you want Moose Milk as a patch lube?
Do you want Moose Milk as a bore cleaner?

Most are a mix of a water soluble oil and water giving the result of a milky colored liquid. We can argue for pages on the number of parts of oil to parts of water, the benefits of using distilled water as opposed to treated tap water. When should you add rubbing alcohol to the mix to prevent freezing or cut an oily patch lube.

Then there are those who call MAP, Moose Milk. MAP is a mix of Murphy's oil soap, rubbing Alcohol, and hydrogen Peroxide in equal quantities.

Best depends on who you are talking to at the time.

By the way. Ballistol is one of the water soluble oils mentioned above. Others deride the fact that mineral oil, a petroleum based oil) is the oil base for Ballistol and therefore should never be used in a muzzle loader. Based on the notion that because only bear oil should be used as a lubricant.

Welcome, Daryl, we hope to keep the passion and we want to pass that passion on to new users of muzzle loading firearms. There's a lot to learn and really isn't that difficult to learn. But at all times there is a lot to enjoy.

That last part on moose milk and ballistol was more tongue in cheek. Everyone know the best moose milk is 1 part ballistol to 9 parts water, the best patch lube is beeswax and olive oil, and ballistol is EVERYONE'S preferred rust prevention. Geez, I couldn't even type that with a straight face.

Oh, I can so completely relate to this. For me it is only a few WARSAW guns, but I've worked on too many 1911s and Hi-Powers to count, too many M9s/Berretta 92s (hate this piece) and P226s to deny knowledge of them.
But, make critical adjustments to flint angle or balance of spring power on a flintlock? Um, no, I'll leave that to the pro's.

I wish more people understood the relationship between caring about something and heated discussion or getting upset. This can be applied to many things and places/environments.

And Daryl, if anything I've posted has ever been of help (doubtful), you are most welcome.
