The book "Crow Killer, the Saga of Liver-Eating Johnson", on which the movie "Jeremiah Johnson" was based, was largely a fictional work. This book is the author's attempt at providing a more factual account of John Johnston's life. Myself having read "Crow Killer" several times and seen the movie many times more, so I thought I would give this book a try.
