I have a few guns that look best with shiney and new looking hardware. Some with German silver and others with brass. Is there a polish, coating, or "dipping sauce" that builders use to preserve that new look?

I'm worried about loosing the crisp lines and contours from years of polishing.

You could rub them with "Never Dull" when you clean the guns. It seems to offer a degree of protection from tarnishing.

Nightwind, Mornin,,
For brass use Brasso, We used it in the Navy and I still use it,, BUT,,,, it does say NOT to use on silver

from a former paratrooper, beware of the Brasso. it's good for brass, but since it contains amonia, you may find staining (or leaching of the abrasive) onto your wood.
i've used museum wax (get it through Museum Replicas 800 883-8838 or www.museumreplicas.com)
good luck

OT....but always good to find another.... 1 - 505th for more than a decade.

Take a look at "Blitz Cloth." Low on abrasives, using non-toxic chemicals to do the work. Impregnated in the cloth so no sloppy liquid to splash where you don't want it. BUT...specifically says not to use on silver.

Flitz makes a good wax for firearms. It's carnauba and beeswax without any polishing compounds (read: abrasives). I find that putting a couple coats on my steel and wood every six months keeps everything looking goooooooood... :results:

For the brass & silver that I want to keep shiney, I use Mothers Mag Wheel polish on them... If it is not polished well, take some 1000, then 1500, then 2000 paper to them & clean them up, then rub the heck out of them with this Mothers paste & man it will make it shine like you never imagined they could.... Years ago we used it on mag wheels & alum. forks on motorcycle & etc. Works on Brass, Gold, Silver, Aluminum, etc.
