I know that rifles were pretty much area spicific and I was wondering is it was the same for the other gear.Like shooting bags, knife sheaths, powder hornes. If were in an 18th centurey bar having a drink and a guy walked in you could assume that if he had a lancaster rifle he must have at least spent some time in that area right ?Would it be the same for acuterments that the man was careying ?And as far as being pc goes where else can a guy stumble by mixing his gear?As far as my case goes I want to starte with a late lancaster as a rifle to lug to events here in Texas I was thinking that I could also get a bess repro and be pc for almost any time period as far as guns go I know that cloths and some other things will change some. Can I do this with Knife ,shooting bag, powder horne,Etc,Etc..And justa side note the people at TVM are awsem.

From what I've found just about everything places you in one local or another. Moccasin pattern, powderhorn, shot bag, etc.

There are of course exceptions to every rule.

It can become overwhelming.

If you go early, plain and generic, you'll fit in better in more places. An early gun can be used late. A basic butcher knife, hawk, plain home-made horn fit in anywhere. Same with a bag- plain bag with a flap made of leather works for most periods. Beading, decorative motifs, those sorts of things narrow the kit down.
