Just curious what others do keep things dry on a rainy day.

On my caplocks I put duct tape on tip end of barrel (JUST the end; a small circle to cover it) to keep water out, charge blows it off before bullet gets there. For the nipple I carry a candle (comes in handy for other reasons too...) and drip wax around base of nipple and base of cap.

A friend uses a small balloon over the end of the barrel, sort of a muzzleloader condom. The ballon explodes before the bullet gets to it. He says he learned this during duty in Vietnam.

Anybody else?

a finger cot over the muzzle. A tire valve step cap over the percussion cap. Works real good and acts as a safety.

I use a greased patch around a tight fitting lead ball to keep water off the powder. :haha:

Ain't no water seeping past that seal. I know, because the patches don't burn through whan I shoot. Air-tight seal.

I keep the muzzle down, so rain isn't getting in the bore, anyhow. More worried about rain running down the outside of the barrel into the pan.

I discovered that those barrel condoms work well to keep your percussion cap dry. If you have a brass flash cup surrounding your guns nipple you can stretch the condom over it. It will keep it completely dry. You can drop the hammer on top of it and it will fire.

Check your hunting regulations as this is not legal to do in some states like mine. (No I did not use it in my state.)
