Hey guys, Just looking for my christmas present. I want to buy a kit, All I really know is that I want a Pennsylvania Flintlock Rifle. Being that I am from PA. Any suggestions? I heard that Kentucky Rifles are the same. I want it in the white too, don't want to spend a ton of money, 300-400 dollars is about my allowance. Any thoughts?

For that money you are going to be hard pressed to find anything other than a cheap foreign production kit. An in the white gun will cost you even more. TVM has one of the most reasonably priced kits. Link , Their Poor Boy Tennessee kit starts at $356. Tip Curtis has lots of guns in the White, but they start at a $1000 or there bouts, but all you need to do is apply the finish on them. Track and MBS will be more expensive.

You will probably be looking at 700 dollars or so min. for a good in the white project Early Rustic Arms are in this range, more from other makers, the value will hold well on these compared with prodoction products and the quality and authenticity will be much better, in the long run you will not regret it, If you were to hold one of each in your hands right now I suspect your choice would be to scrounge some more coins and upgrade, even if it means waiting a while, you may be able to order and collect the extra $ during the wait time while the gun is being built?

I got a Pedersoli kit from Dixie, the Dixie Cub. It was well done and I enjoyed building it and I enjoy shooting it.

They have a Kentucky and Pennsylvania in kit form but if I remember correctly, they will cost about $500.00.

I have no doubt that an in-the-white gun from Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading is a beautiful, but if your budget won't allow it, then don't give up on the Pedersoli. I have owned 3 of them and a pistol and they are all great guns.

thanks for the info guys....what about the traditions kits from the possibles shop? They seem to be on the rather inexpensive side. I know they aren't the quality as some, but for the guy that is going to shoot about 50 rounds a year and hunt in the PA after Christmas season, I wouldn't see why they would be bad. I currently shoot a traditions deerhunter. Got it for Christmas with the Redi-Pak. It's ugly as sin but it shoots a tight group at 50 yards and fires quick and every time.

Sitting fox also sells an affordable kit. Early lancaster About 500 bucks but well worth it. I am putting together one of Ray's Fusil deChasse kits. Good components, good workmanship.
