I recently purchased a single barrel flintlock shotgun. It is approximately a 19 bore and has the name Ketland & Co engraved on the lock. It has some modest engraving on the barrel, lock and other metal parts. The lock has a water proof pan and a roller on the frizzen spring. My assumption is that this gun was made for English market, rather than export to North America.

I have attached a picture of the proof marks on the underside of the barrel. Based on what I have found on the web, these appear to be the private proof marks of Thomas Ketland of St Catherine St, Weaman Row, Birmingham which were used from 1766 to 1810. However, I am far from an expert on English proof marks.

Does anyone have any further insight into these proof marks?

See this months excellent article on the Ketlands in MAN AT ARMS magazine by Joe Puleo.
I believe those to be british Ordnance private proof stamps.
The Ketlands didn't have any barrel proof stamps of their own.
