What is a fair price to pay someone to pay the labor on some side seam leggings? I would provide all the materials. Want to be fair....

Should add a single Mom, makin ends meet. Excellent seamstress...I would pay for any leather tools.

I would have her keep track of her time and pay her a reasonable hourly rate for your area. :hmm:

All she needs is scissors, some linen thread, an awl and a needle. They can be cut out and stitched up in about an hour.

The question is, what do you think is a fair hourly wage? $20?

My guess is that it would take several hours. Figure she would have to fit them to my legs and pin them. Also fit them over my mocs. Thinkin 3 hours...does that seem like good guess?

Nope, closer to ten hours,,really.

That's using an awl and hand stitching.
Be watchfull of which way ya run the grain. Hide will streach one way more than another, ya want the streach to go the long way down yer leg not around it.
If ya go around, they get too big after a season or two.

Thanks.

That was what I was looking for. So, figure on up to Ten hours for the labor. I will let her know.

Ain't gunna take no ten hours. You're only looking at about 25/26" of seam. Cut a bit over size in width, wrap around your legs and have someone staple them like you want them to fit. Remove and sew. I would suggest a back stitch, or just a simple running stitch. Depending on the chosen leather, you might be able to use a glovers needle instead of an awl.

I agree about the time. I used a glovers and it only took a couple hours, which included the ties that attach them to my belt. I guess if this is someone's first time sewing leather or making leggings, there will be a learning curve (that I wouldn't want to pay for).
