Knife handle pin/rod

Has anyone used a wood dowel instead of a rod/pin in making their knife handle? I read about someone doing it. Never heard of it before. Might make for a nice looking contrast on a wood handle.

i have. knife now needs a handle. not very durable. use pins or cutlers rivets

Was your handle glued and the wood pins still failed?

Or it may look like a wood dowel.

pins were glued to the wood slabs and set with small wedges. no wood was glued to the steel. shrinking wood and compression of fibers i figure was just too much i guess
