I bought a Russell Green River Works blade and some curly maple slabs for a knife build. I have finished all of the sanding and now I am about to finish it out. I took some black leather dye and put it on pretty heavy and let it soak in for about 1 miniute. I then took it in the house and used I wet rag to remove the excess until it was just about wash out. It left a beautiful finish of grey with black stripes on the curly maple. I am going to let it dry for a couple of days then use some birchwood casey stain over it. I think that it will turn out great, but I have to decide if I am going to use walnut or colonial red. After the stain I am going to put on a few coats of tru oil. Has anyone done this before? Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.
