I'm new to knife building and I just put on my first set of scales with brass rivets. I bought the kit from track of the wolf. I had trouble getting the rivets to press together. I was wondering what techniques people use or tools. I used a hammer with a bolt the same size of the rivet. The heads bent over on me. I got them in but there not pretty.

After inletting the scales for the rivet head,I use a Vice or C-clamp to squeeze'm together slowly. Then do the final seating with a hammer and punch much like your useing a bolt.
Ya gotta be sure the opposite side rivet head is supported so your hammering against the rivet and not the scale.
It helps to put a bevel on the front of the male stud and cut them just a little short of where the thickness of the scales are.

Yeah that sounds better than just hammering them the way I did. I guess this was a good learning experience for me. I kind of butchered the handles. Next time I'll do better. :shake:
