I haven't posted much if any on this forum. I thought I would put up this picture of a knife I built earlier this year. It is supposed to represent something from the middle 1800's. It is the only one I've made that isn't a modern style. Any comments are welcome.

While others might like it. I feel the antler handle requires a proper burial. If you ship it to me I will dispose of it properly :rotf: :blah: :youcrazy:

nice knife ...how is the blade finished it looks dark?

Hawk2- I heat treated and tempered the blade, sanded with 320 grit to remove most of the scale, soaked it in vineger, and then rubbed it down with 000 steel wool. I wanted it to look old and dark.

LHunter- I made the blade.

Grey Whiskers- The blade is made from a Nicholson 14" lathe file. The blade is about 9 1/4" long and a hair over .2" thick. It is edge quenched and tempered for 1 hour at 425 degrees F. I haven't tested it. In fact I haven't even sharpened it. I have made several knives from Nicholson and Simonds files and heat treated them the same way. All have held a edge very well.
