Well I'm getting ready to start making a few antler knives for family and friends. I'm tooled up for carving and engraving antler. Also in the process of getting a basic leather working kit together for sheaths. I have no way to forge my own blades and I'm not ready to try that just yet anyways. I've found some blades that interest me on TOTW and on Ragnar's Blade Catalog. Just wondering if there was something else out there I may be missing. Any suggestions?

Thanks

It is not really necessary to forge a knife blade. The steel does not care so much how it is shaped, but more how it is heat treated, which can be relatively simple with some steels. A typical blade can be filed to shape, or ground to shape, and heat treated in a bar-B-Q grill useing a hair dryer for air flow. An acetylene torch will also work for small to skinner sized blades. 1080/1084 steel is not very expensive, and is relatively easy to HT with good results using simple equiptment.

Awsome site thanks! Everything I need and plenty of tools I don't need but I'll wind up getting anyways.

I will eventually make some blades myself, but to get started I'd rather buy some to get my feet wet. Was about 12F here last week. I'll wait til it warms up a bit before I experiment with the charcoal grill.

Thanks guys!

OK, I see a big price difference between blades. I understand you get what you pay for, but theres some huge price differences. Is there that big of a difference in the blade quality?

Thanks
