Well we concluded our last muzzleloading instruction session of the summer at Camp Raven Knob. We had 9 Scouts and we shot pretty much all day at a variety of targets and ended with volley fire.
We're planning on conducting a training session for adult leaders to take the first step towards getting the instructor certification this fall. Projected date for Basic Muzzleloading is the second weekend in October. For an experienced muzzleloading guy, this is a snooze course. For the noob, it can be information overload. Thankfully, we already have a couple folks expressing interest that are experienced muzzleloaders and they'll be able to help the tenderfeet along. Once that course is done, the actual Instructor course is next. There is a shooting qualification component and the rest is how to instruct and instructing methodology. Nearly every youth shooting sports program requires the NRA instructor cert for whatever discipline they conduct but the muzzleloading one is quite rare. I have my thoughts as to why but it's a fact. Now for more hard work through the winter to expand and refine this program. I'll say this again, this would not be possible without the generous donations from Schutzen, Lodgewood, S&S, and several individuals who support setting up a quality program for kids to experience muzzleloading.
So some pix from the last session. My regular photographer was out of action so we only got a couple.
Here's Pathfinder giving a quick overview of Bess and his beautiful flintlock rifle. The kids are always interested in how a flint works.
Just a few of the rifles we were shooting yesterday.
