I moved up in history a few years and made this canteen for my grandson's birthday. It is a tribute to his gx3 grandfather, Thomas Edmonds who served in Co. D of the 18th VA cavalry. The 18th spent most of the war in the Shenandoah Valley engaging in raids, often times tearing up the B&O railroad tracks. They were at Gettysburg, not engaged in the battle but covered General Lee's retreat.

Strangely, after the war Thomas moved to Connellsville, PA and went to work for the B&O. I guess it was his prior experience that landed him the job.

Outstanding!
Great history too!

Anymore photos of the piece?

Unfortunately all the photos I took were similar views. It's in the mail now, otherwise I'd take a detail shot if requested. BTW, the Internet is wonderful. I did a search for the 18th VA and found a picture of their battle flag, which I copied (including the odd-looking stars).
