run 'raw lead' past google and check prices, big increase past 30 days. get the cheap stuff while you can.

Do you ever get near Florence? How much do you want or need?

I get x-ray shielding lead cheap over here. I can pick it up for you.

I attend events in NC at times. We might be able to work something out if you attend or happen to be near.

PM details.

It is not just lead, pretty much any raw metal has gone up a lot in the last year or so. My dad who is an electrician loves demo-ing old junction boxes on remodel jobs  $$$$$$

I bought 60 Lbs.of dead lead in May for 1.30 I thought at the time I paid too much. Maybe not?

I just got 100 pounds from a plummer friend and it was cheap....$000.00

And it was new pure lead!

Blizzard,
Ever used wheel weights? I don't know
if they are 100% lead but a lot of folks use
them for R/Bs.Some tire stores will let you
have them to get rid of them. Some sell them to salvage dealers for pennies on the dollar.
Offer a penny or two more than the salvage
dealer and your in.Better yet a salvage dealer
mite pick them up maybe once a month.Offer to
pick them up weekly. They are in the way at a tire shop......Just a thought:hmm:

Old wheel weights are harder than pure lead. I'm told it works well for making round balls for smoothbore use. New wheel weights have NO lead in them at all. :(

Wheel weights are an alloy of antimony which is pretty hard for PRB's in a ML Rifle. I have used old water pipes (dead soft pure lead)from little towns that are getting rid of the old pipes. I have to purify the lead by scimming and scimming again but it is worth the effort IMO. I don't have access to a forge anymore which I will have to remedy soon. I like casting my own RB's and find it enjoyable. One of my quirks :haha:

I have read about people who require pentration over expansion cast their round balls out of wheel weights. The main problem is that they harden to a slightly larger dia. and might require a patch change. But if the price is right you can cast some good balls from lead wheel weights. They will also be lighter than pure lead.

It aint just lead! It's all of the metallic raw materials that are used in the shooting sports!

I shoot a lot of BP, but I also do a lot of centerfire too! Federal .223 ammo went up 50% at most places, and it's not coming down, either! My best advice is to whip-out the charge card and buy all that you can, and very soon! The interest that you pay on the card is much less than the next price increase :cursing: . This goes for brass, shot, balls, powder, and especially manufactured centerfire ammo of ANY configuration!

RUN FORREST, RUN TO THE STORE TO BUY MORE!! :v

Stick on wheel weights are close to pure lead if not actually pure, easily scratched with a thumbnail. Clip on weights are harder but make good round balls as long as you use a thinner patch or use them in revolvers. Some of the newest ones are made of zinc with no lead at all. I haven't run across but one so far and it was a weight for a big truck. Guess I need to make a run on the tire shop.

I hang drywall for a living and was able to get some pure sheet lead off of some left over lead backed drywall. It's brand new! I'd be willing to give up a couple hundred pounds at Dixon's on Saterday, this week, for $1/lb. I could use some spending money while we're there. Mrs Jerry P wants some raw horns and stuff. What a woman! Send me a message if you're interested.
