I just got a new holster for my 1851 Navy from TOW. It's made by Oklahoma Leather. It's very stiff and what I would consider "raw".

What is the best way to fit it to my revolver and also to treat/weatherproof it?

I know the leather gurus on here can help me out.

Thanks.

Double wrap your oiled gun in plastic bags, then soak the holster in water for a couple of hours to make it really sink in. Then, put the gun in the holster, and mold the leather to the revolver. Set the holster aside to dry with the gun in it. After a few hours of drying you can take the gun out of the holster to help air move in and out of it to dry faster.

When dry, Oil it. I prefer Neatsfoot oil, but some don't. I am sure they will offer their special formulas for conditioning leather.

I agree with Paul. But be sure to use PURE neatsfoot oil, not neatsfoot oil compound. While still damp from the recommended treatment (almost completely dry but not quite) apply a light coat of oil with the fingers and rub in well. That should take care of it for a while depending on how often you carry it and how hard you use it. If the usage is light, no more than once a year.

Try a farm store or a western store.
I use the pure neatsfoot oil.

Paul told you how to form the holster to the pistol what he said will work well, to watterproof-protect the hunting pouches-bullet bags ive been making ive used Stumpys moose snot on them the beeswax and caster oil seem to work well rub it on and hit it with a hair dryer to help it soak in.

Thanks for the tips.

I wet the holster and formed it to the pistol. Worked like a charm.

I treated it with silicone after it dried. I like the way it turned out.

:hatsoff:
