I need to reseal my leather canteen,it leeks a little not much but it gets my side wet :(
Was going to put bees wax in it.But was wondering if I would damage it in any way, like make it lose shape :idunno: . Would like some input.
Have Fun

Is there some sort of bladder you could line it with? I know it isn't wax, but something to think about. :hmm:

if it is already lined with bees wax just melt down about half a cup pour it in,put the cork in and shake it up. i've had to fix mine a couple of times,it's not going to hurt it a bit.

A little judicious work with a heat gun along the leaky seam(s) might do the trick.

If you prefer to add additonal beeswax, I find it helpful to heat the canteen in the oven at ~180-200F to melt the existing wax, add more wax, slosh around to coat and pour out the excess. At least this is what I do when I make my leather canteens.

I too have had excellent results with brewers pitch - it aslo helps to 'stiffen' the flask much more than beeswax (which I have also used). You do need to be more careful when applying it though - it is much less forgiving on bare skin.

Doc,
When I make leather canteens, I ensure the leather is fully impregnated throughout with wax. This makes the leather hard as wood with no flex.
