Seen someone mention a leather capper. I've got a brass one that works okay, but how do ya make a leather one? Sounds like an interesting item for the possibles bag.

The nice thing about a leather capper is that you can make them any shape that pleases you...

I've seen tear drops, snakes, circles, half moons, odd shapes and strips to name a few...

What ever you can think of and cut leather to match will work, the leather can be tooled or left plain, dyed or natural, thicker leather works best to hold the caps...

I would use a leather awl, etc and work on the hole until it takes the cap. I started with a straight strip but then switched to a half moon because it was a little easier to get the caps on the nipple. I have seen leather cappers where the hole was open, so the thing looked like a circular saw blade with a cap stuck in the notch. This is PC and the caps come off easy, maybe too easy. I lose a cap from time to time so the solid hole is probably best. My half moon is about 1/8 inch leather(scrap) probably about two and a half inches long and an inch and a quarter wide. I lot of folks hang these cappers from a strap on the hunting pouch.
