Greetings, as a newbie here I have a few questions. The one I am interested in here is if anyone has themselves, or knows anyone who has made a powder horn/bottle from hardened and waxed leather. Just wondering if it is worth pursuing. Thanks for any suggestions,BB.

BB, I make alot of hard cast leather items, ball bags, canteens, tobbaco canteens, etc, not sure if casting a powder flask would be the ting to do, no matter what you do to leather, it has a tendency to attract moisture do to the fiberous content of the material, even sealing the interior of it with beeswax will not inhibit the moisture attraction, there is a food grade latex product that can bee used to seal horns and leather that may work enough , could be interesting to see if it works well enough to keep the powder from caking, not sure of the name of this product, but I was told that it can be purchased at Michaels crafts and possibly Hobby Lobby, if you pursue this and build it, let us know the outcome and performance, Thanks, Beav

:hmm: I remember an article in an older german book about bottles with leather sewed around and then - hope I remember that right - boiled in hot water to make the leather hard.

Maybe that could solve the problem to make the powder stay really dry...

Thanks for the suggestion Beaverman, Ive made containers of leather and a few pieces of armor too. Just wondering if wax was good for powder, Beeswax does get tacky in warmer weather.I will definitely check into that product. Please do post if you remember the name. I have gained alot just reading the forums on practical shooting. Great forum! Thanks again. BB
