leather stain

I wish to stain a leather sheath for my patch knife and am looking for a home made stain formula ..dark brown or reddish bown color. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

not a home-made brew but fiebing's is the best you can get for leather and can be had in about any color and shade from chocolate to English red :2 (jmo)
