I did an experiment at the range yesterday first I used lead wrap for my black English flints I got about 20 shots then had to replace the flint. I then tryed a leather wrap and got about 60 shots. I was using a .54 GPR. Just thought I would poast my results . F.K.

The mainspring on my Pedersoli Queen Anne is a mighty one and tends to devour flints and occasionally likes to flip them out of the jaws at my face. I don't mind the former so much, as it gives a good spark, but the latter is just a tad hard on the nerves. Gives a whole new reason for flinching! :surrender:
Since I've always used a leather wrap, I decided to experiment with lead and was delighted with the results. Hammering out a .50 calibre ball on my anvil gave me enough lead for both the pistol and my Kentucky rifle. Thus far, the Pedersoli has behaved in an utterly lady-like manner and has not tried to blind me since. Now if I could just find some harder flints...

I have used both.Currently I am using lead and it seems to give better spark with my gun than leather.
