I just finished making a possibles bag from a kit and was surprised that I very much enjoyed the process. The bag came out fine too, which was another surprise. Does anyone know of, or can suggest, some resource for instructions on leather work - especially period type - that would help me in learning techniques and styles?

December issue of Buckskinner has a full step by step instructional on bag building by Wayne Zurl from waynezurl.com He does some really nice leather work and does his homework.

I have a few that can get you started... find a copy of the Boy Scout Leatherwork Merit Badge Book as it gives a decent overview of skills and basics to get you going. Online, there's the "International Internet Leathercrafter's Guild at this web page Check the links section for classes, more books, etc. There's also Springfield Leather here: web page still constructing, but might be decent if they ever get it finished.

And of course Tandy Leather for some basics at an almost decent cost.

You can also look online for native american craft suppliers like Crazy Crow (slow w/catalogs but great selections), Grey Eagle, Native Essence and a ton of others I haven't tried yet.
