Anyone tried Lee REAL bullet in a Trapper? and if so, what load and what powder?.

Not sure if this will help you or not but I have shot some REAL's out of a .50cal Plain's Pistol with good results. That meaning the REAL's were the only conicals I have had shoot out of the pistol that did not tumble or keyhole as some people say.

I know you are new to speaking English so I hope I used one of the terms you understand.

Try the lightest REAL for the .45 you can find. You can try a light maxiball as well.

Thanks. I have casted some 200 grains REALS. But i think i have a to fast burning powder, Sweiz no 1.Maybe Sweiz no 2, or thre f whould be better? I allso have some casted 445 rounds. I can see, that most people use rounds, so it seems that those should be the best.My gun is a Ardesa 45 cal Patriot, but as that is the same gun as Trapper,i think i get more answers this way.Regards.

What about using some kind of wad or seal under the REAL bullet? This may help to seal the gases behind the bullet. These are usually factory made from pressed wool felt. But you can try to make some yourself from gasket material (cork), paperboard from cereal boxes, leather, cotton ball, or a little crushed up newspaper. But be sure that it's packed down very tight and compressed down into the breech when loading so you have very little or no air space left in the breech. If you are only loading a moderate amount of powder, that shouldn't be too much of a concern. Don't start any fires though. :winking:
Do the REALS feel tight in the muzzle or do they feel loose?
If they are loose, maybe the wads will help.

When i first push it in the muzzle, it needs some effort. But then i could use the original ramrod, and just push it down the barrel. Absolutly dont need much effort. Shold i try load a very light load, just that much so the bullet come out of the barrel, and fire it in to a stack of old cloth. Then i could see, if the rifling marks have the right deep. What do you think? I do think Lee have a oversize version allso. I dont think, that i should do any more testshooting before i have the right powder. Some people say, that Sweiz NO 2, is better than ordinary 3 F. Regards.

The bullet sounds like it's tight enough, but the wads still might help seal the gases blowing past the bullet before it exits the barrel. Then you can try out different loads/powder with and without the wad.

I have measure the bore, and it is 456, allmost 457 in the bottom of the grooves. Is that OK? seems large.I was thinking if it posible to shoot a roundball in 456 cal and no patch. Or a conical revolver bullet in 456 cal. Than i dont need that patch ting. Just a thought.

I have shoot bare balls without a patch, but you have to be very careful because the ball can roll right out of the barrel if it's tilted or angled toward the ground at all.
You might try putting a small piece of newspaper under the ball (over the powder) and tamping it down flat and tight. Then put in the ball, and another piece of newspaper to hold the ball in place. Not to much though. A .440 bare ball shot surprisingly well for me at 25 yards.

Thanks all of you, for all the god advice. After work today, i am going to try some round balls and Sweiz NO1 that i have. I understand that NO1 is a little fast for my gun, But if i tried a little lighter loads, it might work. I hope my postman bring me that 3F i ordered, hopefully at monday or tuesday.

Now i have tried with 445 PRB,Wad and 8 grains of Sweiz NO 1. Not much recoil, but shoot real nice.About 1,3/4 inch at 22 yards, with rest. :) Happy again. Tomorrow i will try 12 grains. Tommy.PS maybe the wads did it? or the light load.

I think the wad is responsible, because the wad gives a better wading of the load so the powder can produce more pressure. With wads you get good pressure even with small powder charges.Because of the bullets I would only use PRB out of the pistol,it was made for that.

I think you are going to find out that FFF is faster than FF or the Swiss F and F 1/2.

I played a little today with my Patriot and .445 balls with FF and different size patches.

Best groups with FFF has been 15 grains with a .18 teflon patch.

Today the best group was with FF, a .20 patch and 25 grains of powder. Best group was about 3/4 inch at 25 off the rest. Only did it once out of 5 experimental groups. Tried to repeat and got an 1 1/2 with the same load.

Hello. Now i have just ben out in my garden shooting. Today i tried REAL 200 grains, with the same wads and load that i shoot yesterday with round balls. 8 grains Sweiz No1. I am so happy, :) 3 shots in just a little over 1 inch at 22 yards, with rest. For a couple of days ago, i did have my doubt,if this gun should ever shoot god.It must have been the wads. Before i use wads, both REALS and rounds, did shoot poorly. Thanks, for all advises. Regards.
