Does anyone have problems with finding suitable left-handed percussion and flintlock muzzleloading rifles. I have searched the web up and down without much luck. I guess the manufactors cannot justify making a rifle only a small percentage of people will use. I am too old to change to the wrong side now. I use to have the same problem when I shot a bolt action.

I use a RH caplock for LH shooting. I wouldn't try it with a flintlock.

You also need to find one that doesn't have a cheek piece. In my case I use a Renegade.

Not too many choices for production ML. The GPR and Cabelas Hawken come in LH. I don't like either one.

If you want an expensive custom. TOW usually have some nice LH used guns.

Last choice........build one.

When I shot percussion I used RH guns with no problems. Now I shoot flinters and have two customs by Jackie Brown, both LH. I think if you were to shoot RH flint, it would be very important to ALWAYS wear shooting glasses. I wear glasses always, even for hunting.

Most of the Lyman line comes in lefthand versions, both cap and flint. I happen to like them. Cabelas are made by the same company, so they used to have some lefties too, though I don't know anymore since they pared back their traditional offerings. Dixie Gun Works has a couple of lefties, too.

If you're willing to spend a little more money, TVM has about the best range of styles and calibers in lefty versions, flint and cap, and mostly for just under $1k. They're very well made and reputable.

I'm a lefty too, and not bothered at all by righty caplocks. But flinters are another deal. I've got some righty flinters, but am more than a little bothered by the occasional shower of flint particles into my face, as well as the scar under my right eye from a larger one. Now that I'm shooting leftie flinters, the difference is startling. Not only are they safer to shoot, they're also easier to shoot well.

Sometimes it aint easy living in a world full of left brainers. But alas, the same rule applies everywhere: Love it or leave it.

I'm still a right brainer with a blind right eye.

I either shoot lefty, or get out the rocker. :idunno:

I always howl with laughter when I hear gun manufacturers wailing about the poor economy. They could jump their sales 15-20% with left handed offerings. Baloney economics if you ask me. :bull:

I shoot a right hand flinter left handed it works great. Just hold your right arm a little lower. I burnt holes in a flannel shirt when I let my arm drift up. There is no more danger to your eyes than shooting right handed all the gases and flint pieces are blown out to the side. I have had more manure blown it to my face from my left handed caplock than my right handed flintlock. Just One more reason to shoot flint.

Deer Creek Products have several models in the 225-300 range.
They have no web sight.
You could call and ask them for a catalog or they can answer several questions for ya on the phone.

Who made the guns?

I don't see why you don't just shoot a RH rifle left handed. :idunno: I shoot the lefty's I build right handed. Not a big deal, flint or percussion.

As for safety glasses mentioned, you should Always wear safety glasses when shoot a firearm, regardless of the type of firearm, and Especially shooting Percussion or flintlock.

I bought a left-handed Lyman Deerslayer .50 , several years ago, for my son.
The local gun shop ordered it for me, once I found what I wanted.
Real nice shooter.

Cathey,
As a lot of the fellows said, Lyman, TC and others do make good LH rifles. TVM makes LH flints that are somewhat more expensive but are well worth the money. When I first began shooting LH I went to the inexpensive H&A type underhammers with good success and little expense. Currently I am finishing a full stock percussion underhammer and looking forward to shooting it this spring. There are options available.

Did you look at the CLA site? There is a .62 lefty fowler by Larry Cruise that looks pretty nice. Don't know your price range - the seller is asking $1500 for this one.

I bought my left hand fl from Deer Creek and could not be happier. Great price $239 at the time. Well made for me, good for me as a first time fl shooter, shipped right to my door. Never had a problem with it shooting, lock works great, Rich Pierce flints, looks good etc.

With what some people say about CVA/Traditions on here I was worried but I could not be happier. I have enjoyed it and is it a custom made one? nope, but I could buy 5-6 of em for the price of a used custom one on here. Will I buy a custom one? yes, but I wanted to see if I enjoyed the Flintlock experience. Could not be a better experience for me and as someone told me with a LOT of experience trading and selling flintlocks who is a lefty shooting a rh, it is easier to sell a rh flintlock than a lh. Lefty don't get rid of theirs and once someone shoots rh they are less likely to want a lh. Plus there isn't as many of us around.

I feel fortunate to have found my Flintlock from Deer Creek.

I think you're right. They're hard to sell because there aren't as many of us lefty's around, and right handers sure aren't going to line up to buy guns to shoot wrong-handed. Like they keep pushing us to do.... :bull:

If it worked so well to shoot a right-handed guns leftie, the left-handed guns should sell just fine because righties would be snapping them up and using them in spite. Yeah, when pigs fly. :rotf:

Get left-handed guns. You won't regret using them, and I bet you won't be inclined to sell them. Ever.

Yep, dont want to sell any of my lefties whether Muzzleloaders or otherwise. Not even those in betweeners called lever guns. To easy for us lefty's.

It is a little know fact to righty's that a lefty shooting a lefty is a really happy lefty. They can't relate at all.

:hatsoff:

Ain't that the truth!

I have to say I'm having more fun than should be legal now that I have lefty flinters. But the fun isn't just in my own shooting.

I get the most fun talking my righty friends into shooting them. The looks on their faces is better than TV. Who knows where the ball hits, because I'm watching them as they shoot, and there's sure no hole in the target to gander. :rotf:

And I've never had one willing to shoot my lefties twice. Howcum, if it's not a big deal to shoot a gun wrong-handed?

I sure don't see any righties lining up to buy left-handed guns, even at bargain prices.
