I want to make myself some leggins anybody got an idea of how much leather/material I'll need.I'm 6'2" tall weigh 220 have a 34" inseam :hmm:

As an approximation, a minimum or 5-6 square feet PER leg. In other words, at least 2 brain-tanned deer hides...

Thanks just what I was wondering...Kinda figured about that much but since I'd not done it before I measured a pair of M/C chaps I used to wear and was pretty close to that figure considering the difference in design ETC

Yep but no longer than any one else cause they just barely reach the ground :rotf: :rotf:

take a pair of old jeans, cut them off about mid-thigh, or how ever high/low you want them....spit them on the inside seam and lay them out on your material/deer skin and use them as a pattern...make slight adjustments to them depending on how tight loose you want them

Ranger,
THAT is the best explaination ANYONE has ever given to measure out a pair of leggings!!!!

AWESOME!!!!

Cheers, DonK

Your measurements are almost exactly like mine. What I did was ordered some german tanned deer hides from crazy crow. I got some seconds. They are cheaper but work great. I bought 2 hides and the whole thing was like 65 or 70 bucks. Then like was said earlier I cut an old pair of jeans up for a pattern. I can't remember the exact size of the hides. i think like 6-8 sq ft size. That left me plenty of hide and I had enough off of each to make one mocassin. Which ended up being a pair of centerseams.

No problem Don! I have and still use the first pair of jeans I cut...still works great after 25+ years....
