Most of what I know about them comes from reading and from posts made by others on this forum.

They are an interesting pistol and quite a few of them were imported into the Confederacy during the Civil War.

The internal lockwork is quite complex and taking the pistols apart should be limited to removing the barrel and cylinder for cleaning.

On the reproduction guns from Italy the loading lever is rather fragile so it should be used with caution. I've also heard of cases where the screws that retain the loading lever can easily loosen and get lost. Maybe a drop of blue Loc-tite on the threads will reduce the possibility of this?

Unless something has changed, you must be prepared to have a non-standard screwdriver/turn screw made to allow removal of Le Mat's side plate. That side plate nut requires a "pronged" head - that is, its screw extends through the head, causing the interior of nut's slot to become, in effect, solid with minislots on either edge.

In the past, Pedersoli did not make the screwdriver available for purchase.

While the driver's head is neither difficult or complicated to create, you won't have the head on your complement of conventional screw drivers.

Hope this helps.
