In my opinion the rifles in the Great War link are fantasy pieces designed to fit some preconceived notions, and not based on really thorough research.
And, of course, you are mistaken. Both Rick Keller and Ernie Cowan are/were extremely diligent and thorough researchers and the sources they used are the best sources of information on the expedition as you would see if you were to read the article. Also, the late Ernie Cowan was probably one of the best, if not THE best muzzleloading gunmakers of the modern era and was a wizard at the restoration of any antique item of any type from any era - his work stands for itself.
