Without getting into a discussion of what rifle or rifles the Lewis and Clark expedition of 1804 carried, Navy Arms awhile back offered a commemorative rifle, manufactured I believe by Pedersoli. Anyone have any information on those rifles or possibly where one might be obtained?

Two things:

first, you are going to have to watch the auction sites - I don't believe anyone has new/old stock for this rifle - recently I saw one sell for about 1400 bucks.

second, you know this is going to turn into a discussion of what they carried....

IIRC the Pedersoli was a 20 gauge smoothie??

Don Stith, offers the Lewis & Clark rifle kit. Don is very knowledgeable on the kits that he sells, making sure they are period correct. You might be able to get someone to finish it, if you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself.

A friend of mine got one and it took a lot of work to get it to perform semi dependable...I think they maybe mostly intended for collecting as the workmen ship wasn't very good. Now that is
just my opinion and I know some one will think they are wonderful...so be it...

These were Armi Sport or Euro Arms M1803s. They had the reputation of having poor almost unshootable locks.

If I wanted an 1803, custom or kit is your best bet.

I picked up an old Navy Arms HF in .58 put in a Davis HF lock, works fine.Whats a few thousendths among friends.
