Nelson Lewis worked in Troy New York from 1843-1880s where he made target and sporting rifles with gain twist rifling. Lewis used Remington barrels that were rifled in his shop. I would describe this rifle as a target /sporter with an approximate weight of 12.5 lbs.. At one time the rifle had a false muzzle which is no longer present. The rifle has a 32” barrel ,around 45 caliber , DST, and a pewter nose cap. The bore appears to be very good and should make a nice shooter. There is a very old wood repair at lock bolt shown in photo but it seems very solid and is not obvious. The rifle is designed for a wiping rod but none is present. I think with very little work this would make a great antique shooter by a great maker. Please pm with questions.
