I'm currently ruining a nice tiger striped peice of wood by trying to slowly, in a small way, copy Marvin Kemper's Lexington rifle.
Shelby G. has been super helpful in this, showing the original to me....(drool)...and now, i must try....
the stinking patchbox is a real hoot to get in....and as you can see i'm still working it down...the door is next. hidden hinged.
the pictures are current...going backwards in time....my kat helps hold things down sometimes....everybody needs a shop tomtom....

You are doing a nice job. The only thing I would change is re-make the side plate. The tail looks quite low to me in the picture.

that tomtom sure does beautiful work. and I think it's nice of him to let you take the credit for it.

I agree but did not want to say anything - now that you bought it up I will "jump on the bandwagon" also. Other wise it looks very nice  .

Yeah....1/8" means a lot sometimes
But it's a deep inlet.....so....the die is cast boys :idunno:
The next one will be further up.....dang my eyes!!!! And tomtom :youcrazy:
I'm still taking wood off this lock area.....these have a slight different curve to the tang than a Lancaster.....and my eye has been Lancaster trained.....they are more of a cylinder....bent.

Anyhow....a learner Lexington :hmm:

The cat is responsible for the sideplate error?. Previously posted the procedure for making a sideplate that "looks like it belongs" in the sideplate panel. Granted some original builders used a sideplate as a 2 hole washer which didn't enhance the LR at all, but these are not to be copied.

The sideplate and its location in the sideplate panel outline is an important aesthetic feature of a LR....afterall, it's opposite the lock side and when shown, should display a certain appeal and also the artistry of the builder.....Fred

Forgot to mention that the rest of the rifle really looks good.....Fred
