My brother has a large supply of this stuff. I had never heard of it before and I wondered if anyone has any experience with it. This stuff may be reclaimed from defective firecrackers. Any comments are appreciated, might save me cleaning my guns after trying this stuff...

I have shot this powder. It worked very well for me. To be honest if you didn't know you were shooting it you couldn't tell it from Goex. :imo:

Thanks,, that is good to know. I won't have time to check it out for a bit and see for myself but if it is about as good as Goex I'll buy more as it is really cheap in quantity.

i had some also and the grains are a tad bit bigger then other powders....there 3f is a bit bigger then other powders 3f............bob

Lidu powder is ok, but I like my Goex better. Lidu is basically fireworks grade powder that is all mix together. You get a little bit of 1-4F mixed in with every can, at least that has been my experience. It does seem to fowl up a little more but it's nothing to get concerned about as long as you run a cleaning patch down every once in a while.

I'm on my third case of Lidu 3f. My experience is that it works with larger charges as used in rifles, 40 grains and up. I've shot 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yds using Chinese powder. You just have to find that "sweet load". Slightly dirtier, but since I swipe between every shot, no big deal.
The wife and I go through about 35 pounds of bp a year.

My real love in BP shooting is pistols. The Chinese stuff just doesn't work for me in those low charges under 25 grains. There, I have to use Goex 3f.

I have not used it myself but I know several guys that use it for BP shotguns because it is 1/2 price of most powder. They tell me the granulation is all over 1-4F and the large stuff settles to the top easily thus when used for rifles it is not real consistant as the further ya get in the can/bag (theirs was in a 5# bag) the finer the powder got. So the charge granulation was changing all the time as they used the bag up, with the bottom of the bag being 4F or finer, thus the rifles shot inconsistantly. The one guy told me he saves that last 1/4 pount for flash pans, but they shoot the rest of it exclusively for shotguns....... They did state it is considerably dirtier than the good rifle powders but when ya shot as much BP shotguns as they do, it was a bargain.

I traveled close to a place in KY a couple of years ago that was selling it, the guy quoted me $5 a pound & then when I got there he wanted $7 a pound as word got out of the cheap price, he say an oportunity to make more so he just jumped his price. There was allot of controversy of that particular bunch of powder being imported legally, as it was brought here as fireworks grade powder & being sold otherwise.
:shake:

BD6,
You're exactly right, they imported it as fireworks grade powder, then put it in cans a slapped a confederate soldier on the front. I use to be able to get it from a friend for $30 a case (25). I think the last time I checked it was $75.

wow i gots ripped off then....when i bought mine the bozo charged me 19.00 lb :curse: then charged me the same fer shuztehn when he said he had goex which is much better but still 19.00....fer now on i'm going to J & J pyro in moscow and gitting me some goex  ...............bob

Gentlemen: I thank you for the input, it is very helpful. I got the powder from my brother and his friend as they are involved in a Civil War reinactment group and use lots of powder during one of these get togethers. They use a lot for their cannon too, but since it is blanks they don't have to worry about pressures, just noise and smoke. They keep fighting that war over and over again,,, you think they are looking for a different outcome????
He said he bought it for around $7.00 a pound which as we know is REAL cheap. I don't mind the dirty too much and I usually wipe the bore after each shot so no big deal. I was interested in the comment that it has multi size granules and that they settle out. I wonder if I were to turn the can over a couple of times if that would re blend it or make it worse?? I shoot a 45(flint) and a 54(perc.) so I can use the larger charges you guys recommend. I had some surgery on a shoulder so I won't be able to try this stuff out for a couple of weeks yet, so your answers were great. I just had to deciede if I want to get a little more of this stuff and it sounds to me like it is ok to use, it just is not as good as Goex or Swiss. Thanks again

Well, when the guy raised the price on me to $7. a can after I got there, it pretty much ticked me off.... Plus since I could buy Goex or Scheutzen for $9. a can, I figured if I shoot a can in a day (on the big bores) it was dang sure worth $2. a day to me to shoot something I know is consistant & cleaner & etc. So I ordered a case of Scheutzen from Clarksville Gun & Rod in AR.
The guy selling Chinese powder told me he was selling it mostly to reinactment groups & they didn't care how clean or dirty it was, just as long as it is cheap & goes bang.. so I guess it was ideal for them.

I really like the Scheutzen powder, very comparible with Goex, to me.

Bob1961: You got hosed.... Don't go back there. Get with a couple of fellers & split a case up & save some big bucks.

Actually, for reenactors the smokier it is the better - at least for public events! :m2c:
