This is my latest smoothbore. I finished it yesterday. North Star West calls it an Officer's Musket. 16ga and 36" barrel.

I've had one for years, your gonna love it. Great shooter an North Star is the best to work with.

Hi Swampman that is a very nice looking musket .Can you post a picture that shows more of it.Also I just put together a NSW trade gun and stained the stick with an alchol stain did you stain your's as well?

what stain and finish did you use also what browning did you uselooks nice

I used Laurel Mountain Forge browning solution and left it on for 4 days. Then I scrubbed it back to bare metal with Scotchbrite(a lot of work). Then I used Birchwood Casey's cold blue to darken it just a little and rubbed it back with 0000 steel wool. I just keep playing until I get the color/patina I want. I'll try to get some better pics.

The stain is 2 coats of Dangler's Dark Brown and a coat of Fiebibg's Med. Brown Leather Dye. The finish is 2 sloppy coats of linseed oil followed by about 10 coats of Formby's Satin Tung Oil Finish. I lightly rub it down with 0000 steel wool between coats.
