I recently bought a finished GPR from the factory, and while the wood grain looks good, the finish is way too dark for my liking. I've heard that you can lighten these stocks because they are not "finished", but I'm looking for some direction on how others would go about it. Also, I'd like to personalize it some what (new and better sites, posibly a silver inlay on the cheek piece or something). I'd love to see some pictures of how others have personalized their GPR's if you don't mind.

I put a hunters star in mine. It was difficult keeping the interior points nice and sharp. If it's your first shot at inletting, I'd suggest an oval or a heart, the curves might be easier.

Please keep us posted, I'd love to see how your project comes out. Here's Ol' Joe:

thanks shooey. I like the color of your stock much better than what mine is. Was your's a kit gun? I'm actually considering trying one of the commercial furniture strippers to try to get the stain out. I've tried these things on old furniture with only marginal success. :shake:

Yes, mine was a kit. The stain is Laurel Mountain Forge "Nut Brown." It has two coats, both cut a little bit.

Do a search on the forums for "stain" or "lye" on the forums. I know I've read several discussions about how to strip a stock. I"ve never done it, the only way I know how is sandpaper. But you don't want to remove too much wood.

Good luck!
