At the range yesterday one of the fellas was talking about how he likes Liquid Alox as a patch lube. He soaks the patches and lets um dry for a couple a days before he uses them.

He claims they work fine. Boy I dont know I think there is a petrolem product in them.

Anybody ever use the stuff as a patch lube ?
I felt one of the patches and it was certainly lubed and a heck of a lot less messy than my beeswax/olive oil patches in the heat of summer.

I know some guys lube conicals with it but patches I dont know about how it would work out in the long run.

I use it im my BP revolvers w/good results on the conicals I cast from Lee molds but tryed in my .50 (did OK) along with several other lubes before I got to the one I use now, Go-Jo white hand cleaner. that's just me YMMV.

Lee Liquid Alox is 50% beeswax and 50% Alox which is a petroleum derivative. I don't think I want it in my bp bores. I'll stick to beeswax and crisco.

Liquid Alox is not a patch lube. It is meant to be used to tumble lube conicals. It dries to leave a varnish like coating on bullets. I use it on several BP conicals and along with my regular beeswax/olive oil lube I think it does a great job to prevent leading in the bore. I would never put it on a patch.

If you're looking for a patch lube that leaves the patches relatively dry and not so messy, try the Ballistol/Water system. It's easy and works great.

That's what I use. I can shoot all day without swabbing. With Ballistol/water patch lube, it's like swabbing your barrel everytime you load.

That depends, if you use Ballistol wet, OK, but if using it as a dry lube for hunting, you will need to swab.
