I've decided that I need a 28 gauge but I have no idea what to build. I want a long gun with a long wrist, a little drop, and a big round face lock. I saw one that I liked and I think the maker was Bollock, Bullock, Ballok or something like that.. (someone help me if you know the maker).
Anyway, I need some inspiration... someone give me push in the right direction.

Slowpoke,

You might want to contact Mike Brooks as, to the best of my knowledge, he has a couple of english fowler kits that would fit your criteris very well.

I vote New England fowler with French influence or club-butt fowler- but I'm biased

English Fowler it is..... Mike can you link your photobucket page so I can poke around. Do I have to use Walnut ????? :rotf:

Cherry would be cool..... I like the lines of this one.

I have a similar fowler in 20 gauge. It is stocked in maple with a 42 inch barrel and weighs seven pounds. It swings beautifully and balances just in front of the lock mortise. I think cherry makes a fine stock, particularly on a New England fowler. The main thing, in my opinion, is to get the best gun or parts set that you can afford. Long after you have forgotten the price, the quality and pride of ownership will still be there, you will have taken much game, and your heirs will be most grateful.

Mike, that's awfully generous of you to make your extensive photo collection of guns accessible. Just wanted to say thanks. I have really enjoyed being able to see so many pics of great guns... :hatsoff:

I believe you may be refering to the Bullard ?
I think it was pictured in one of the volumes of Rifles of Colonial America.

Regards, Dave

Thank You !!!! I couldn't remember the guys name. I don't have any books but my buddys do.

Thanks again

does the RCA have measurements etc on the Bullard/Newcomer rifle?? I saw the actual rifle at Williamsburg in the museum, and love its architecture :applause: . I am actually thinking about building a close copy if possible for my next gun.

I also wanted to thank you for posting all those pictures. I liked the chickens too!!

Mike,

I'd like to add my Thanks also along with John and Oldimkr!

And didn't we meet at the CLA last week and talk about a Type G Trade Gun?

That's a shame, I was really hoping it was bollock

But hold on one cotton picking minute, doesn't seem all that long ago you finished Lauren's gun and swore a terrible dark and secret oath that you would never, ever do another one :rotf:

I know, I know.... I really hate building guns. I have a strong obsessive compulsive side of me that strives for perfection and little imperfection really REALLY bother me...kinda takes the fun out of it.
Just this week I sent a Tomahawk kit off to Forum Member because I'm to lazy to do it for a friend of mine...

They have cotton in the UK? :rotf:
