Looking to stain a maple stock that has about 30% curl to it. I want to achieve a nice deep dark reddish brown.

To me, LMF appears too red.
Nut Brown maybe just right.
Lancaster maple maybe not brown enough.

Anybody have pics using any of these colors?

Anybody try mixing LMF colors to achieve something unique?

Any suggestions? Thanks

I mixed LMF Nut Brown and LMF Maple on my Dickert. I can't remember what order I put them on; I did tests on a scrap piece of wood that came with the parts.

I also put the Nut Brown on my GPR and it gave it a reddish tinge in the light.

There is the Aqua Fortis route that may give you what your looking for.

Then, remember that if you are using alcohol based stains you can apply many coats of different colors.

The darkest stains that don't start to color the wood black are the Walnut ones (Ebony is quite black).

Just finished an early Lancaster and used Klein's {Danglers} stains. First 2 coats of orange, one coat dark brown and then one coat of reddish brown. The applications dried thoroughly before the next coat. After all the coats dried, a brisk rub down w/ 0000 stl wool and the finish was applied. The curl has good contrast and is a dark brown, some yellow areas but mainly overall a nice reddish brown. If you don't have scraps off the gun, use the bbl channel because stains react differently on different wood. ...Good luck. Sorry no pics yet.....Fred

I had used LMF Nut Brown at full strength for the first coat. For the second coat I used LMF Cherry at about 1/3rd strength. For the third and final coat I used LMF Nut Brown at 1/2 strength. I then buffed it down with 0000 steel wool and applied the Jim Chambers Oil Finish. I think the color turned out great. I wanted it dark but not too dark that it hides the curly maple and with a hint of red to it.

Yes, but they are still on the digital camera. One of these days I will have to figure out how to post photos.

with my big big mountian rifle i used 6 coats of birchwood casey walnut stain and then 2 coats of dark walnut oil stain. Has a small hint of red that makes it just right.
probably would help if i added the pic

Well Rich, now that Kentuckywindage has applied two coats of dark walnut OIL stain he can't adjust the color more if he wants to.

I'm glad he is happy with what he's got but I have to wonder how many times I have to tell people not to use oil based stains it will take before it sinks in? (no pun intended).
