I have been shooting 3F powder in all of these calibers for years. I had a chart at one time showing the differance between 2f and 3f powder charges. "goex" Example is 75 gr. 3f = 90 gr. 2f
I would like to see that chart again if someone could find one? :hmm:

I've never seen such a chart but the industy rule of thumb is supposedly a 15% reduction when substituting 3F in place of a published 2F load to keep the pressure in the same ballpark.

I also use Goex 3F for most everything and using the 15% reduction rule have always had excellent results, no problems, etc...and if pressure is the issue from a safety point of view, the main area of concern would be up at the max end of the load ranges...down in the lower/middle part of the load data range there no safety issue if I chose 70grns for a .50cal target load one day instead of 50grns...they're both so far below any max pressure range that it doesn't matter...no need to do any math correlation to 2F, just pour and shoot.

Likewise, I use FFFG in everything except my 45-110 Sharps.

I start with the lightest load I would be happy with for hunting and go from there.

In a 50 Cal, I start at 70 grains, Shoot a group, then go 80, 90, 100 and see which one is best. I take that charge weight and stick with it. Then I might try different thicknesses of Patch and see whichen shoots best.

In the 58 Cal, I started with 90 Grains and worked up to 120. It seemed to shoot 110 the best.

If I get to Patch tearing, I will Reduce the powder charge or try a different patch.

I seem to remember that not too long ago there was a thread about powder charges somewhere on this site, but I can't remember which forum it was on. It had to do with the powder charge as a percentage of the weight of the ball, but I don't remember the percentage either.
Does anyone else remember what that percentage is?
