I made one.[not a kit] but in 62 cal. Lighter ball
so less recoil...right? I use 25 gr FF. 30 is ok
but beyond that in not necessary. Quite accruate to 30yrds...haven't tried further yet...

General rule that gets tossed around a bit is .50 or greater can use 2f, anything less 3f. I use 3f in almost any firearm, though. I've tried using larger than 3f in smaller bores, and you can get away with it in something around .45, but my .36 had ignition problems, so I stick with what works.

The 2Fg powder will produce a bit more fouling than 3Fg would and in a short barreled pistol the 3Fg will give slightly better velocity.

That said, yes, you can use 2Fg powder in the larger bored pistols and it will work quite well.

In pistols, because of the short barrel lengths, you are usually going to get better groups by using load of FFFg powder, not FFg powder. However, like all MLers, you need to try both powders to see what your particular barrel likes.

I recommend using a filler, or OP wad, to seal the gases from the burning powder behind the PRB in these large bore guns. That reduces the SDV and results in tighter groups, regardless of the powder you choose. It may also allow you to use smaller powder charges. :hatsoff:

NightWolf1974,

I purchased a single AN IX from Dixie Gun works a few months ago over the summer. I was disappointed with the pistol I received due to the fact that the trigger was very loose. It swung freely, no matter if the lock was at half cock, full cock, or resting.
Dixie Gun Works returned my pistol back to me and the trigger seems fine now. They did not list what they had done to it.

I have shot this pistol, as I buy guns to shoot them, not to let them sit. The usual load I use is Pedersoli's maximum, which is 35 grains. I'll take a 12 gauge cotton cleaning patch saturated in Crisco vegetable shortening, and a hand cast round pure lead .66 caliber ball. My powder for the main charge is FFG Goex. This is a large bore and I have always been a believer that larger bores need FFG.

The accuracy is abysmal. I have fired to my best estimate a little more than 100 rounds through the pistol. At 25 feet I have difficulty striking my target (Paper Plate Sized). The largest charge I have used on this pistol is 60 grains and it seems to pack a whollop. I also noted at 60 grains, the pistol seemed to be a bit more accurate.
My pistol is also VERY hard on fine 7/8th inch flints. Within five or six shots my flint will be kaput. I originally shot the pistol with 5/8th flints. The 5/8th flints did last longer, but they dug deep into my frizzen. The 7/8th flints are very fine and are quickly crushed with the stiff frizzen and heavy lock.

Just a quick question for you though, what made you want to get this pistol and why are you getting two? If you do get them, could you please put up some pictures  .

Here is a link to my original range report, with some pictures:

i want two basically one for each hand. i intend to take one hunting with me next year as a back up shot.

it used to be here in Nh we could take out as many MLs as we could carry, that changed to one rifle and one pistol at max.

secondly.. i'm into pirate re-enacting and they look cool and hopefully won't blow up like some of those cheaper ones might when fired with a load.
