My grandfather gave me an old percussion lock years and years ago before he passed away. Not sure if its for a rifle or pistol. Any information would be helpful, maybe I could use it for a project gun or something. It's in good working order and functional

More than likely it is the right hand lock from a double barrel percussion shotgun. Some late percussion rifles/single barrel shotguns also had locks like that built in the English style.
